Wabi-Sabi
[Japanese Wisdom For A Perfectly Imperfect Life]

“Comparison is the Thief of Joy”
[Edition #19] [2 min read]
Burnout. Depression. Anxiety.
These have become increasingly popular in today’s world.
The question arises….why?
The problem is our obsession with perfection.
In an era dominated by social media, we're bombarded with curated images of "perfection," leading us to believe that everyone else's lives are flawless.
But in reality, these snapshots only tell part of the story.
Unfortunately, many will compare their lives to these snapshots on social media and feel a sense of dissatisfaction with their own.
This is where the Japanese Philosophy of Wabi-Sabi comes in - the Japanese philosophy that celebrates imperfection.
Let’s dive in ↓
👉️ What is Wabi-Sabi?
Wabi-Sabi celebrates the beauty of imperfection & letting things be.
Its roots come from traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, where simplicity, modesty, and appreciation for the fleeting nature of life were emphasized.
Wabi - Refers to the idea of finding contentment in simplicity and valuing the authenticity of things as they are.
Sabi - Refers to the concept of ‘aging’ in a sense as a testament to the passage of time and the richness of experience.
Together, Wabi-Sabi teaches us to find beauty in the flaws.
👉️ How To Apply Wabi-Sabi To Your Life?
Let me clear something up.
Embracing imperfection doesn’t mean we shouldn’t self-improve.
Self-improvement is good! As long as it is within reason & sustainable.
Here’s how you can embrace Wabi-Sabi in your life:
Setting your environment for you
Simplicity
Keep, Throw, Donate
Bring nature into your home
Have an appreciation of flaw
We’re not perfect nor are we supposed to be
Be your most authentic self
Relax, slow down, & enjoy your life
See beauty in the most unlikely of places
Nature bathing
Walking in nature slowly
Focus on the beauty of nature'
Detach from society and connect to the universe
When you can find beauty in everything you will have a greater appreciation for what you have.
